Current design (after January 10th 2014)
One sub-domain per country + one "world" sub-domain.
e.g.
- fr.openfoodfacts.org -> products distributed in France
- us.openfoodfacts.org -> products distributed in the United States
- world.openfoodfacts.org -> all products
Transition from languages sub-domains to countries sub-domaines

- for all existing products without a country, added one country - Jan 10th 2014
- using the place of purchase field if specified and recognized (countries + some popular cities)
- using the ip address of the creator of the product

- compute data
- display data in a list
- display data on a map
- e.g. using GeoJSON + Leaflet
Taxonomies
Features
- A global hierarchy / taxonomy for each type of data field (categories, brands, labels, countries etc.)
- Translations for every language of each field value
- Multiple synonyms for each field value in each language
Design and definition
Translation work
- Get the strings to translate in a po file, so that we can use standard translation tools (GetText, PoEdit, Launchpad, Pootle)
- Get external translators on board (the Launchpad team could translate everything within weeks in many languages)
