Meetup in the UK

There are few people within the UK that can talk or otherwise participate in meetups.

Meetups around London

Open data

"Calling all open data and transparency activists to join us every last Wednesday of the month for liberating data and lightening talks . Whether you can write a few lines of code to write a bot, or a journalist who is interested in covering stories on transparency, or a campaigner who champions an open and free world - come along to meet like-minded people and use open data to change the world. If you are an NGO who would like to suggest a mission for these meetups - do get in touch at hera@opencorporates.com Powered by missions.opencorporates.com // OpenCorporates"

"The UK is leading the world on open government data: 37,500 datasets freely available and counting. Amongst these, geospatial data has relevance to most sectors. Whether it is business, education, engineering, or health, we use geospatial data to understand and solve problems across space. Thanks to innovations in the field of web mapping, the entry level for working with this type of data has become accessible to everyone. Web maps based on open data make amazing business insight and planning tools. Join us to see how you can build your own!"

"Calling all Open Data lovers, big or small! I love data, so this is why we have started the Open Data Event! We'll meet once every month at a venue courtesy of our sponsors. Have your chance to demonstrate what you can do with Open Data "

"Calling all open data enthusiasts! Supported by the Open Data Institute, we've set up this group to get together and discuss all things open data related; whether thats open and linked data, open government and transparency, licensing, hosting, research and problem solving, technology, business models, innovation, visualisation and analysis. If you're a policy maker, researcher, start up or SME using open data, then we'd love to meet you. Further details will follow but if you're interested in giving a talk, or have suggestions or questions then please do get in touch. "

"This group is for women who love data; big or small. Whether you work in data or want to know what the fuss is all about. Let's get together to share experiences, learn and shout about our achievements. The group format will be directed by the needs of it's members. At whatever stage of your career and whatever your specialty be it a Statistician, Developer, Visualizer, Journalist or a little of everything we hope to have a place for everyone to develop. We hope to get women working on interesting challenges to speak about a variety of topics. If there are any topics you would specifically like to see discussed then please let us know. This is a group to help us better understand our craft but also to talk about wider issues of this new data age."

"Meet people interested in Linked Data, Open Data, and Semantic Web technologies."

Startup scene

"We are London's Food Tech startups. We're based all over London, but particularly around Silicon Roundabout area, and we are creating startups in the Food Tech space. We cover everything from food subscriptions services, restaurant booking sites, mobile loyalty apps, social marketing programs and more - everything high tech related to the food and hospitality businesses. We get together to share notes on the market, exchange knowledge and inspire each other."

"Are you a producer or merchant of natural, healthy food that would like to get in touch with others out there? Then this is the right group for you. This forum is powered by The Food Market (www.thefoodmarket.com) to support big or small food/ drink producers and merchants in the UK. We love natural and healthy food and we aim to organise events for knowledge sharing and fun."

"An ideal opportunity for people who want to come together and meet others interested in opening up a new food restaurant, from Popups to fixed locations. Like myself I have a great idea and need someone to work with that has a passion for food and business!"

Ethical/Local/Organic/Vegan

"This group is for all things Organic within London. We will have regular meet ups to visit the Organic restaurants in the London area. Members are those who care about the cleanliness and quality of their food and drink. As well as regular visits we will be reaching out to the food community to promote Organic food in restaurants. Additionally through the community we will build an Organic Map of London for people living in London and those that visit. I will be inviting Organic farmers to our meet ups to share their passion and challenges. We will also be planning trips to Organic farms to see where our food comes from. By building this community we will enrich the future of Organic food in London. I have over my time as choosing the Organic lifestyle built a good understanding or where to shop and who to support and wish to support the businesses that support our environment. I hope that members through our meet ups can share their experiences also."

"The original aim of this group was to encourage members of the public to shop ethically by:

  1. Making a list of vegetarian or cruelty-free alternatives stocked by local shops.
  2. Distributing the lists via door-to-door leafleting.
  3. Creating a simple to understand list of high nutrition alternatives, so that people wishing to become ethical shoppers can do so with the assurance that their health will not be impaired.
  4. Identifying the cheapest local suppliers of ethical products and organic food.

The hope being to raise consciousness of ethical alternatives, and the goal to thereby reduce sales of unethical one, resulting in an erosion of the profit margin for these products. Many unethical products may have a profit margin of only 10%, so a small shift in purchases may make them unprofitable, and they'll be taken off the shelves. Members can meet once a month to compile the lists, which will then be printed out. Then we will do some door-to-door leafleting as a group. There are warehouses where products can be bought at extremely low prices, and local farm grown produce, and we could arrange visits to these locations. (This is a modified version of group creator Craig's original description, Amrit took over the group using a spare group, when Craig dropped out)"

"Slow Food is an idea, a way of living and a way of eating. It is a global, grassroots movement with thousands of members that links the pleasure of food with a commitment to community and the environment We want to raise awareness about good, clean and fair food. People in Britain are increasingly aware of the social, economic and environmental and impact of our daily food choices. We work to bring people together to create change through:

  1. school and food education initiatives
  2. the promotion of local and regional foods
  3. projects to safeguard the biodiversity of the United Kingdom

We use this Meetup Group to share information on our upcoming events. For more information about Slow Food London, and all our projects and activities, sign-up for our weekly email at http://slowfoodlondon.blogs.com/general/maillist.html"

"This is a group about ethical and eco-friendly businesses and initiatives in London and beyond. Its aim is to give sustainability-minded entrepreneurs a space to promote their activities, and citizens who care about alternative and more sustainable ways of consumption to discover them. We will organise events where small business owners, social entrepreneurs, leaders of community initiatives etc. will be able to present their activities and products and especially talk about their sustainability practices. We are looking for initiatives from any field: it can be ethical fashion, natural local foods and sustainable farming, fair trade, waste reduction and recycling, green services, transportation, tech innovation...anything that helps us have a more positive environmental and social impact as citizens and consumers will be welcome! Let's discover together a sustainable London! Follow the Community on Twitter @SustainableLndn"
