A page to improve Fishing support

== Rationale

  • Over-fishing is species and area-dependent.
  • We have data on those 2 criteria, and it’s taken into account in the Eco-Score
  • There are some fishing labels, 99% of them are bogus, but we should explain what they guarantee (or not)

== Taxonomy file

  • We detect fish through ingredients or categories. The threatened fish support is still to be coded in the backend.

FAO Fishing Zones

  • Fishing products often mention the FAO Fishing Zone, which allows to know where the fish has been caught
  • Global_origins_taxonomy
  • Radioactive hazard in some zones (Fukushima, Radioactive dumping in the 60s…)

MSC Codes

  • MSC codes will typically indicate the Fisheries (on land) where the fish has been processed.
  • The MSC label allows you transparency on the fishery, which is better than nothing. It should be combined with the FAO zone + additional data for a comprehensive view.
  • See MSC Codes

ASC Codes

Fish-safe labels

Methods of fishing

Marketing

  • World Fisheries Day is on November 21
