We are delighted to announce that our annual community meet-up will take place on 13–14 November in Paris. Please note that this year we will be meeting on Friday and Saturday (rather than Saturday and Sunday).

Language
Please note, as we are an international community, this event will be held in English & French.
Meals 🌮
This year, due to logistical reasons, each one will be responsible for their own lunch. There are plenty of restaurant options, or bakeries (boulangeries) nearby; we can eat either by the Seine, or in the courtyard of the Académie, or upstairs in our hall (if the weather is capricious).
Here some suggestions to grab a bite ☕: in progress. Feel free to add your favorite spots with a short description.
Bring a reusable water bottle/cup if you have one, to save some paper cups :)
Your belongings
IMPORTANT: This is an event that is open to the public. Therefore, we will have visitors come and go throughout the day. Please keep your belongings with you (we will try to secure a room that we could lock for luggage).
Mini-grants
Unfortunately this year, we are unable to provide mini-grants.

Last year we were so grateful to some of the visitors who signed up to this team. It helped us a whole load !
So if you like getting involved in the organisation, please reach out. There are several missions, like keeping an Open Food Facts Discovery stand for the new-comers, helping with the coffee stand, maybe translation, facilitation within workshops, time-keeper, set-up, clean-up, etc.

Transportation
Transit within Paris
The easiest way to get around is either by walking, or taking public transportation. To travel, the most straightforward options are either to purchase an €2 Navigo Easy transit card from a ticket vending machine, or alternatively to purchase digital ticket(s) on your mobile phone with the free official Bonjour RATP App (if your mobile support NFC). Paper tickets have been phased out and are no longer available.
Prices are super easy: No matter where you go it's €2.05 if you take only bus, and €2.55 for subway, tram, RER. (one exception to this is the Paris Region Airports ticket for Orly and CDG; this has a separate fare)
Quick guide:
- RER: these are regional trains that can carry you reasonably long distances within the city and the suburbs. Each RER train line has a single-character letter name (A, B, C, D, E)
- Metro: each subway line is identified by a separate number (from 1 to 14)
- Bus: I don't know, after more than, a year I never used them :)
- Another handy app to get around is Citymapper.
Arriving by Train
Depending on your route of arrival, you will arrive at Monparnasse, Gare de Lyon, Gare du Nord or Gare de l'Est. Those train station are all well served by the subway (Metro). Good mapping apps should be able to provide you with a guidance to use the subway.
You probably want to avoid arriving at any of the following train stations, because they require an additional hour-or-so connection to a regional RER A or RER B train to reach central Paris:
- Aeroport Charle de Gaule (abreviated CDG)
- Marne la Vallee - Chessy (Disneyland Paris)
- Massy Palaiseau
From the United Kingdom
Train travel from the United Kingdom is possible via the Channel Tunnel. However, travelers should note that because the United Kingdom is no longer part of the European Union, border security checks are in place, and you should check your travel documentation requirements in advance.
Eurostar -- the train operator in both directions through the Channel Tunnel -- offers discounted fares, with some restrictions such as no refunds, if you and your traveling party have flexibility on the time of departure. For details see the Eurostar Snap website.
Arriving by Plane
Paris has two major airports:
- Aeroport Charle de Gaule to the North of the centre. This has a connection to the regional RER B train into central Paris.
- Orly, to the South; from here you can take the OrlyVal to connect to the RER B, which will then bring you into Paris. There is also metro line 14, which now serves Orly (the fare is €14).
Note that the Paris-Beauvais airport is primarily used by low-cost airlines. Transit from Paris-Beauvais airport into central by bus can take 2 hours or so.
Accommodation
Hotels in central Paris can be expensive during the Summer months; hostels provide an economical alternative, although with a potential reduction in privacy or customer service.
